Something unusual that happened to me This morning, I woke up and found that my spectacles had broke. I did not know how it happened, or remember breaking it. All i knew was that the twisted piece of metal and broken glass the lay in front of me was no longer usable as a pair of spectacles. I immediately told my father about this and he asked me what happened. I told him that I did not know and wanted to get my spectacles fixed as soon as possible. Straight away after that, he drove me to a nearby shopping mall to fix my spectacles. It was about nine o' clock at the time. When we arrived at our destination, it was to my dismay that i realised the spectacles shop was not yet open. I wandered around outside the shop for a few hours, squinting at faraway objects, feeling as blind as a bat. Finally, at noon, the spectacles shop opened and i immediately went in to get my glasses fixed. When i showed the spectacle shop owner my pair of glasses, he exclaimed that it was beyond repair and recommended that I get a new pair. Throughout the whole "spectacle-choosing process", i wondered how my glasses had been broken. It was really unusual. Something that happened in school Today in school, I started on the Online Project Work with my group. Everyone treated it seriously as it took up alot of our percentage for our exam marks. After our English lesson, we went down to the Professional Room for our Online Project Work. There were many laptops provided by the school for our use over the course of our Online Project Work. We settled down to do the assignments that our form teacher gave us. The assignments were mainly based on a place that could be found in the school. From that place, we had to find two strengths, describe the place and then suggest something that could be done to improve the place. For our group, we got the amphitheatre. When we started our laptop, we discovered that it was very laggy and we could do nothing to solve the problem. Thankfully, the laptop became stable after awhile and ran at a tolerable speed. Everything went smoothly for the first fifteen minutes. The computer was running fine and we managed to finish our draft. Just as we were about to save and finalise our work, the computer ran out of battery ! We were shocked and horrified. Our efforts and work all gone down the drain. There were only five minutes left for us to save our drafts! Someone in my group managed to calm us down when he explained that there was an auto-save function that would prevent any work from accidentally being deleted due to a sudden shutdown or loss of power. We managed to salvage our work and went home feeling satisfied. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 A Special Moment With My Family We celebrated my cousin's birthday last week ! It was a happy event. Initially, my cousin had planned for nothing but a simple celebration at home, but my mother insisted on bringing her for a big day out. Let me tell you more about my immediate family's relationship with my cousin. She has always been very close to our family. When she was 21, she became an air stewardess. As she lived in Woodlands, which is very far away from the airport, she moved to our place to stay. Ever since then, she has been living with us. That Sunday morning, we went out for the movie, "Invictus" and it was really enjoyable. The storyline was good and inspiring. After the movie, we went for some dessert at an ice cream shop beside the cinema. My cousin and I had green tea ice cream while my father and mother had chocolate and vanilla ice cream respectively. After a minor discussion, we decided to go for bowling. It was expected that my cousin had won the game. She was a very good bowler, and the only one among us who could rival her was my father. He won the first round, but the other three rounds were taken by my cousin. I, on the other hand, was constantly competing with my mother for third or fourth position. After we had played 3 rounds, we went to a chinese restaurant and sang the birthday song to my beloved cousin. I could have sworn I saw a tear drip from her eye as she made her wish. We all congratulated her on turning a year older and enjoyed our dinner. All in all, it was a really special day for us. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 It's been days since my 2.4km run for Physical Education and I can swear that it was probably the worse run I've ever had in these two years. I was taking my time ambling across the track, enjoying the wonderful sea breeze as I watched sweaty students run past me. I didn't think that I'd fail. Apparently, the timer in my teacher's hands begged to differ. I, who had never unintentionally failed a 2.4km run before, failed that run. I was feeling kind of disbelieving and confused after the teacher announced that I had failed. Well it really was kind of expected, now that I think of how I had taken my time. It was very ironic, as I fervently believe in the morale of the fable of the tortoise and the hare. I have learned my lesson. Complacency really does kill. I will be sure to buck up and work harder to pass during the next run. |
